If you are a young driver, you might want to consider these points before renting a car in Canada.
Generally, the minimum age to rent a vehicle in Canada is 21, except in Saskatchewan and/or Quebec, where it is 18. Note that in most provinces, you are able to rent a car if you are over 21 years old. However, an Underage Fee will apply to those under 25, which may be subjected to tax and surcharges. In addition, restrictions on the size and type of vehicles will apply to renters between 21- 24 years old.
The age surcharge varies per car rental provider and can be viewed on the “Important Information” box during the booking process or the car rental provider’s Terms and Conditions.
Please contact our Customer Care Team for more information.
Before booking, it is important to read the Rental Information of the providers you are comparing because they will state what the minimum rental age is and whether there are any additional fees or requirements for being under a certain age. The principal driver and additional drivers all need to be at least 21 years old and must have a minimum of 12 months of driving experience to rent a car. Drivers under 25 will incur an Underage Surcharge and will not be permitted to rent luxury cars, minivans, specialty vehicles, passenger vans, full-size SUVs or premium SUVs.
