Seat Belt Rules

seat belts

Did you know that the fine for not wearing a seatbelt is $167? It’s also important to keep in mind that the driver is held accountable for ensuring those aged under 16 have their seatbelt on. When you rent your car with VroomVroomVroom ensure that everyone in the vehicle has their seatbelt on before you start the car. Not only will this help you avoid receiving a fine, but will keep everyone safe.

Can you have more passengers than seatbelts?

There is a one person, one seatbelt law in Canada. For example, if there are only 4 seatbelts in a car, then there can only be 4 passengers. In Ontario, before 2006, there was a loophole in this law that meant people were able to share seatbelts with others. Since the range of fatalities, a one person, one seat belt law is strongly enforced. A great rule to go by is that if that vehicle is fitted with seatbelts, you are required to wear them.

Who are exempted from wearing a seatbelt?

Those with a medical condition and/or certificate that states they can not wear a seatbelt do not need to do so.
