Useful information on Alberta

Alberta is Canada’s fourth most populated province, and along with British Columbia and Saskatchewan is known as a ’prairie province’. Capital city Edmonton is Canada’s northernmost metropolitan region and a hub for many industries. Located 300 kilometers south of Edmonton is Calgary, Alberta’s largest city. The province was named for Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, who was married to Canada’s Governor General from 1878 to 1883. Check out some of these great attractions in Alberta:

  • Lake Louise: This iconic lake looks dramatically different depending on the time of year you visit. It could be either covered in ice or shining a bright turquoise colour in the summer. Explore the hiking trails around the lake to see magnificent scenery.
  • West Edmonton Mall: Visit North America’s largest shopping mall for a great day out. The mall not only features a long list of great stores, but also an indoor water park, movie theater and much more.
  • Jasper National Park: See waterfalls, glaciers and mountains in the stunning Jasper National Park. One of the many park highlights is the beautiful Maligne Lake, which often features in Rocky Mountains postcards.
